What is Computer Forensics?
Computer Forensics/Electronic Discovery is the process of acquiring and examining information on electronic media (i.e. a hard drive, a floppy, a palm pilot, etc.) for the purpose of locating and retrieving information that may be crucial to an investigation or litigation. Highly trained computer forensic examiners provide you with the: who, what, where, when and how of electronic media examination. Our Computer Forensic Services include: litigation support for trial lawyers, email discovery, lead investigations involving information systems, data recovery, consultation on computer-based investigations or incidents, expert testimony, and risk mitigation and assurance.
Our CFEs cannot only locate and retrieve information from active files but also from: deleted files, file residue, file slack, RAM slack and hidden files. These are files that are not seen during normal computer operations and could be the “key” to your case! Our CFEs are highly trained to ensure that the examination process is not corrupted. In legal proceedings, an expert knows how to preserve electronic evidence in a manner that will withstand judicial scrutiny and we have your Expert.
NSS CFEs have been performing computer forensics for 10 years. Our workforce has received training on a wide variety of commercial and open source applications used for digital investigations, and we have a multitude of tools to accomplish our investigative tasks as efficiently as possible. We have performed digital investigations on desktops, cell phones, PDAs, raid based servers, firewalls, email servers, database servers, and web servers. Our strength lies in our technical knowledge and our ability to integrate it into computer forensic methodologies and applications which allows us to be able to adapt to technology as it evolves and changes. Because of our technological experience, we are not locked into one forensic application nor are we limited in our investigative abilities due to an application’s deficiencies.
